Campaign Season Kick Off

Written by Director of Government and Educational Media

As candidates begin to come forward in the coming weeks, it’s clear that voters will partake in a historic election for the city. A new mayor and the future of Newton’s government through the Charter could bring sweeping changes. After two years of review, the Charter Commission has brought together numerous recommendations for how the city operates. It’s an effort to modernize many aspects of our local government and it will either be approved or rejected as a whole.

Over the summer, production will begin on a 30 minute special about the charter review process in a comprehensive way. NewTV’s Government Media and News departments are collaborating to digest the recommendations and the impact they could have. The special will broadcast in the fall.

We look forward to partnering with the League of Women Voters again this election season to provide a debate forum for contested races. All candidates also have the opportunity to come in and record a three-minute message to the voters. These messages are a direct way for candidates to speak and present their vision in an unedited, concise way.

As the next few months progress, look for updates on NewTV’s social media and website. Our biggest production is the live election night results coverage that unfolds on the evening of November 7th.
