Summer of Culture

Written by Director of Government and Educational Media

The summer season brings a cultural focus to NewTV’s Government and Education media department with coverage of the arts, history and replays of Hollywood classics!

The City of Newton’s Arts in the Parks concert series showcases a variety of talent appealing to all generations. Our crew will cover nine performances in July and August. This popular series will go beyond the summer months, re-broadcasting on our Education Channel throughout the fall and winter.

Summer Culture Historic NewtonOur city’s history is all around us and thanks to Historic Newton we can connect places and people from the past to the present. Walking tours across Newton this summer provide a great way to see Newton’s landmarks. We’ll be there to document tours of Walnut Park, Needham Street, Black History in West Newton and Sports Legends at Newton Cemetery.

On an entertainment front, NewTV is bringing back some old Hollywood classic movies from the 1920s-1950s. They will air on Sunday evenings at 7:00pm during the month of August. A full schedule will be released soon!

Summer is a great time for high school and college students to keep busy and create media! NewTV’s Education Channel provides opportunities for hands-on experience and the support to produce an independent project from start to finish. Our Education Channel internships offer flexibility throughout the year with for-credit or non-credit tracks. Apply online
