A Network of Newton Non-Profits

On Thursday, I went to the John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton with Director of Marketing and Creative Services, Shelly Kamanitz, to deliver a donation of board games. NewTV initially purchased the games to be used as centerpieces at our Third Annual Teamwork Trivia Challenge event, and now the children at the Club will get to play with them.

As an organization, NewTV is always working to provide the best experiences and opportunities for our members to enhance member engagement. But did you know that there are also groups working to provide the best experiences and opportunities for community media centers? There are two major groups like this in our area, one of which is MassAccess.

Celebrating Newton Artists

Newton offers a wealth of events for anyone interested in the arts. One of these is Newton Open Studios (NOS) – a yearly exhibit of Newton artists showing and selling their work in various locations across the city. Behind the Scenes of Podcasting at NewTV

If you’ve been following what’s going on at NewTV, hopefully you know that we are introducing podcasting. This February, we will be offering the first Introduction to Podcasting class for a one-time discounted rate of $50. Once members are certified on the equipment, they can start producing podcasts at NewTV. We are so excited to bring this new feature to our members as we continue to adapt to the current media landscape.

Last Thursday, NewTV hosted its fifth annual House of Haunts and it was a smashing success, largely due to our volunteer support. Over the span of three days, fifteen volunteer members and interns moved furniture, assembled props, carved pumpkins, acted in our scavenger hunt, greeted patrons and much more. I am constantly impressed by our members’ willingness to step forward when we need them and help out for a cause that they love.

Anyone who has spent time at NewTV knows Richard Berman, our production assistant. If you come in this week you’ll see him sporting a new medal that he received on September 10 after completing the 2016 Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle in California. We are so proud of his accomplishments and he was so excited to share the story of his trip with everyone at NewTV:
