Community Media Day is an annual celebration every October 20th that brings awareness to the importance of free speech and accessible media for all.

Community media provides a platform for individuals and groups to share their stories, and access to local information and news that may not be covered by larger, mainstream media outlets.
LOCAL DIALOGUE. GAVEL-TO-GAVEL COVERAGE.
Community media provides a forum for community members to discuss local issues and watch their elected officials at work, helping to promote and foster civic engagement and government transparency.
LEARN. CREATE. COLLABORATE.
Community media centers provide media training and educational opportunities in a collaborative setting so that everyone, no matter their skill level, can develop the skills and experience they need to contribute to the media landscape and have their message heard.

For 34 years and counting, NewTV has proudly provided Newton with a platform for residents to have their voices heard and stay connected to their community.
To celebrate Community Media Day 2026, we wanted to take you back in time to our roots. This video shows NewTV as it was in the early aughts and 1990s... all the way back to our grand opening in the basement of the Hyde Community Center in 1992.
We have come a long way since then! From the Hyde Community Center to our studio on Needham Street, from analog to digital, from 1992 to 2026. Want to see where we are now?
