How Nonprofits Can Get Involved at NewTV

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a Newton Cultural Alliance (NCA) meeting at the Scandinavian Cultural Center. The NCA works to bring arts and culture organizations in Newton together in order to create a network of support. They also run a great calendar of local events.

Hearing about what’s going on at other organizations in Newton inspired me to write about some of the ways that Newton nonprofits can utilize the resources available here at NewTV:

Podcasting

Podcasting is h podcasting bloguge right now. In particular, it is great way to reach a younger audience. Millennials and Gen Z go through podcasts the same way other generations consistently tuned into their favorite radio programs every week.

With a nonprofit membership at NewTV, you can produce your own podcast in order to educate the public about your cause. Our neighbors at the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) produce their podcast AdoptED here in order to teach people about the adoption process and fostering.

Read our article about AdoptED, and check out their episodes on our Soundcloud.

Their podcast is a good blend of engaging and educational and a great example of what you can achieve at NewTV. Even if you are completely unfamiliar with the process, our podcasting classes will help guide you through it.

Gallery Space

One of the lesser-known aspects of NewTV is the fact that we offer gallery space. We regularly have Newton Open Studios and Newton Art Association exhibits hanging up on our walls.

Check out our art galleries page to see past exhibits.

We also host receptions for these exhibits, usually a week or so after they’ve been hung. These receptions are a great way for local artists to meet and mingle. We at NewTV also get the added plus of getting to see beautiful art everyday when we come to work.

NewTV also offers different spaces within our facilities for rent for events. We’ve had organizations host meetings in our conference room, use our studio space for photo shoots, and take advantage of our 42-seat screening room.

Often nonprofits lack the space needed to host large meetings or screenings. Renting NewTV’s facilities for the day or evening is a great way to host your event in style while still keeping the location local.

Produce a Show

Last, but not least, is the option to produce your own show at NewTV. We offer training for up to seven employees/volunteers per year. Once certified, these members are free to take advantage of the studio space or check out equipment. The show will air on NewTV and go up online, reaching the wide audience that NewTV has built over the years.

Some local nonprofits have been producing programs here for years. Green Newton produces the program Greening Our Community, which covers their Environmental Speaker Series.  The League of Women Voters of Newton uses our studio space to produce The League Presents, which focuses on elected officials and community leaders.

These are just a few of the ways you can get involved at NewTV as a Newton nonprofit. Check out our membership page to get an overview of our Nonprofit Organization Membership.
