As a NewTV producer, you want to draw as big an audience as possible to your show. Maybe you’ve already made a social media page for your show, maybe you send emails to your friends and family encouraging them to watch. When you promote your new episodes, it’s important to have images to use to help represent your show and get people excited to watch. Here is some advice about creating great promotional photos.

An easy photo to acquire and use to promote your show is a still from it. If you’re in a bind for time for a photo, you could simply take a screenshot from one of your shows and use that. Make sure it represents what your show is about. If it is a talk show with guests, you might use a still of you and a recent guest. If the show is shot in the field, you might choose a shot that you think is particularly beautiful or powerful.

If you’re able to take an actual photograph that would be a better option in the long term than a screenshot from the video. An actual photograph taken on a DSLR camera would be much higher quality and easier to work with and edit to fit all your promotional material. Simply ask one of your crew to either take a photo during production or you could pose for one before or after the show.

If you’re trying to get a photo for your podcast, having someone take a photo of you and your guest after set-up and before recording would be a good option. If you’re not interviewing your guest in person, you might choose to take a photo of just yourself with your microphone and headphones.

 Design Your Own Logo

Creating a logo for your show or podcast is also a great way to make promotional material that you can always have on hand. Once you’ve made a logo, you can repurpose it in multiple different ways.

For your logo, brainstorm what would best reflect your show or podcast. You’ll have to think about what kind of colors and graphics will work together. You want something that looks good but that also gives people an idea of what your show is about. This might require some abstract thinking, but the more creative you get, the better!

 Get Photos of Your Guests

Another important part of promoting your show is getting people excited about your individual episodes. If you have an exciting guest on the show, be sure to try and get a photo with them. You can also ask guests to send you a professional photo of themselves to use to promote the show beforehand.

With a little forethought, it is easy to gather good quality images for your show. Photos with important guests, behind-the-scenes photos, your logo—these can all be used for social media or on promotional emails.

Just be sure to save these images in a safe place on your computer and back them up. Once you have the perfect promotional photo, it is important to keep the original file so you can edit it and reuse it as many times as you want.
