Introducing the USB-C

This week I want to talk about USB-C. This newish (came out in 2013) version of the Universal Serial Bus is the fastest and most convenient version of the USB cable.  Also, it’s about to be everywhere. Google’s newest phone, the Google Pixel, uses the USB-C connection to charge and to connect to computers. Apple’s newest Macbook Pros only have USB-C ports and the newer Windows laptops have these ports as well. Before we get into the details, I’d like to explain what the ‘C’ part means. When it comes to USB cables there are three variants: USB type A, the biggest one that you usually connect to your computer, Type B the one that you normally find with printers (however this also includes the micro and mini USBs), and now Type C, which is smaller and reversible. The Editor's Toolkit

Final Cut, Adobe Premiere and Avid are robust programs that have a lot of built in effects, functions and features to really bring your video to life. I mainly work in Adobe Premiere, and one of the best features they’ve added to the program is Lumetri, a powerful built-in color-correcting filter.

The Organized Editor

You’ve gone out and shot your short film, documentary or television program, and now you’re about to embark on the postproduction process. As excited as can be, you start to drag your footage onto the hard drive, quickly open up your favorite editing program, and start cutting as quickly as possible. But down the road, you start to wonder, “Where is X file,” or “Why isn’t Y file over here?”

My First Mass Access Conference

The Mass Access Spring Conference was an impressive event. I wasn't sure what to expect. Coming from the advertising world, it was nice to network with a whole new industry of community media people from across the state.
