Happy New Year! Once again winter has arrived in New England and with it difficult driving conditions, cold days, long dark nights and for some, the winter blues. Luckily it’s the best time of year to be stuck inside with your remote if you like live television.

Favorite Finales

When you become invested in a television show and find out it is going to end, whether it is because it has been cancelled or because the creative team has decided the story has run its course, you hope for a satisfying ending. A good finale means something different for every show and it might mean something different for each viewer. Below, the NewTV staff members share their favorite television show finales and explain their reasoning.

Amazing Main Titles for TV and Film

Main titles have been used to introduce television shows and films for years, and have run the gamut from simple credits over plain backgrounds to sophisticated, 2D and 3D graphic animations with live action and special effects.

Some of my favorite titles include Mad Men, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

When you watch a television show season after season you become invested in the characters. Each week, you wonder what will happen in their lives and how they will address the problems at hand. If a season ends on a cliffhanger, you cannot wait for the next one to premiere. Then, one day, you find out that the series has been canceled. Hopefully, you haven’t already unknowingly watched the series finale. When you do watch it, you hope that the characters you have come to care about end up in a satisfying place. Sometimes every loose end seems to be tied up nicely. Other times, like in The Sopranos, you’re left wondering if you’ll ever know the truth. Or, like in How I Met Your Mother, you’re left questioning if it was all worth it. Maybe, you felt like the show was trying to do it all or did too little too late. Then, time passes by, and you slowly get over it and hopefully you find a new show to watch, new characters to love and a new world to inhabit.
