NewTV Nabs Four More Emmys®

It’s time to get a new trophy case! NewTV won four additional Boston/New England Emmy Awards at the ceremony on June 2 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. Tied within the same category of Performer/Narrator were Greg Shea, Narrator, and Jesse Seward, Performer, both for Assassin Nation: Baltimore Plot. Andrew Eldridge and former Co-Director of Original Programming Angela Harrer took home the prize for Photographer Short Form for American Ruins: Bannerman’s Castle. Assassin Nation: The Baltimore Plot also won for Historical/Cultural/Program/Special. This brings the total to 13 Emmy Awards for NewTV, an impressive achievement for the organization.

The competition was tough, and the room was packed with well-known anchors and talent from New England network affiliates and industry professionals from The Boston Globe, a variety of production companies, and more. NewTV was well represented this year with many of the staff in attendance, including Angela Harrer, who flew in from L.A. for the event, making it a festive reunion.

Former Government and Education Channel intern and recent Lasell College grad Greg Camillone also joined the NewTV table, as he had received an honorable mention for his documentary Let’s Talk Tough: The Mental Health of Athletes from the Boston/New England Student Awards for Excellence in the Long Form Non-Fiction category. This was Greg’s first film, so it was an honor for him to have been recognized by this prestigious organization. He was inspired by the evening, and NewTV was proud to have nurtured his talent and helped him reach this level. Click here to read a profile on Greg.

NewTV received 17 nominations in all for its three original programs: Assassin Nation, American Ruins and Heroes Around Us. The organization has made a name for itself in the local television community, and is raising awareness of the value of high-quality, locally produced programming. Other community media stations are now a bigger presence at the Emmys and are winning as well.

Congratulations to all the Emmy nominees and winners!
