Decision 2019 Election Results

25 percent of Newton’s registered voters turned out for the 2019 Municipal Election on Tuesday. There were 12 contested races with some new faces on the Council and School Committee, with two historic changes.  First, Holly Ryan, who ran uncontested after Cheryl Lappin stepped down, will be first openly transgender woman to hold a councilor seat. She’ll represent Ward 8 as their Ward Councilor. Second, for the first time in the Council’s history, women will hold more seats than men, by a margin of 14 to 10. So, let’s take a look at the results from the contested races.
