COVID-19 Update: Feb. 3, 2021

The confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in Newton. Through February 1, there are now 3,196 positive cases of COVID-19, an increase of 141 people since our last report on January 27. Two more people died this week bringing the total to 182 deaths. The Mayor is urging people to continue to be vigilant by wearing a mask, distancing, hand hygiene, and staying home when not feeling well. The number of people affected in the state continues to happen as well. Through February 1, there are a total of 502,378 confirmed cases. That’s an increase of 20,761 people since last week. There are currently 67,650 active cases in Massachusetts, which is 17,745 fewer people than last week. There are 1,631 patients hospitalized for COVID-19. 320 fewer people than last week, and 353 are in ICU with 224 intubated. Since we reported last week, 972 more people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total to 14,362 confirmed deaths.
