On Friday, March 16 at Newton South High School from 5-630pm, the Dance Academy of Siagel Productions, along with members of the Newton South Dance Team, Phunk Phenomenon, Junior Phunk and Lil Phunk including a host of hip-hop dancers, rappers and a Michael Jackson impersonator are hosting a benefit for children with the rare and usually fatal illness, Sanfilippo Syndrome. Newton News: NewTV Annual Meeting

NewTV is holding its annual meeting on Wednesday, March 19 at 7pm at NewTV studios. An annual report will be presented, refreshments and two nominees will be elected to the NewTV Board of Directors. Ballots will be distributed to members in good standing the night of the event.  Proxy ballots are available for those who cannot attend. If you’re interested in running for one of the two Member Elected open board seats, be prepared to make a brief presentation at the meeting, stating who you are and why you should be considered. Newton News: Marathon Runner: Mike Ruggerio for AFSP

This year, 36 thousand people will run the 118th annual Boston Marathon, 9 thousand more than usual. The additions come from runners who didn’t cross the finish line last year because of the bombs that went off. Within the 36 thousand runners, most are running for a charity. This week, Newton News profiles Mike Ruggerio, owner of Fitness Together in Newton Centre who is running for AFSP, because his mom died by suicide in 2002.

The Newton Rotary Club is once again hosting, Newton Has Talent. Kiss 108’s, Matty in the Morning will be the emcee for the second annual event on Sunday, March 30 at 130pm at Newton North High School. There were 42 entries with 20 remaining.
