Newton News: Bus Crashes

There were two bus crashes this week. One was an MBTA bus, the other was a school bus.

On Sunday morning around 730am an MBTA bus crashed into a guardrail on a Mass Pike overpass near the Crowne Plaza hotel in Newton Corner. The bus was carrying 10 passengers with 8 people taken to nearby hospitals including the driver with non-life threatening injuries. The left lane of the Mass Pike was closed as well as Washington Street for a little while. The 42 year old driver and 17 year veteran for the MBTA driver has been cited on charges of obstruction of justice, operating to endanger, speeding and impeded operation. The Middlisex District Attorney is investigating the crash.

The second bus crash this week was a school bus that hit a house on Dedham Street. At approximately 830am, Tuesday morning the bus driver had just dropped off 35-40 children at Brown Middle School so the bus was empty when it was taking a left from Meadowbrook Road onto Dedham Street. A vehicle driven by 34 year old, Nelly Rodriguez from Brockton was heading west on Dedham Street.  The cause of the crash between the two vehicles is still under investigation but the bus ended up hitting a house owned by the Charles River Country Club. There were no injuries but Rodriguez was arrested for operating a vehicle after license suspension.
