NPS Budget Update - 3/24/25
March 26, 2025

Monday’s School Committee meeting gave the public a chance to weigh in on the Newton Schools budget for next year. A key focus was the $800,000 gap between the $4.4 million Superintendent Dr. Anna Nolin says is needed to maintain services and the $3.6 million Mayor Ruthanne Fuller says is financially responsible.

Parents, speaking both in person and online, urged the mayor to fully fund schools and prevent cuts that could impact students. Dr. Nolin outlined the reductions required under both budget scenarios, while committee chair Chris Brezski emphasized ongoing efforts to control costs.

With an April 22 deadline approaching, discussions continue on how to close the funding gap, including the potential use of surplus funds. Stay tuned for more updates.
