Innovation Showcase - Cellblock Visions: Prison Art in America

Jay talks with Phyllis Kornfeld. Phyllis is an artist, educator, and author. For almost forty years, Phyllis has taught a variety of art courses to incarcerated men and women in settings ranging from county jails to maximum state prisons. During the program, we’ll be finding out why and how Phyllis became involved in these nontraditional teaching settings, we’ll learn about her highly acclaimed book entitled Cellblock Visions: Prison Art in America, and, in the process, we'll come to better understand and appreciate some of the men and women prisoners Phyllis has worked with, we’ll view some of their extraordinary artwork, and, in turn, learn about some of the benefits the prisoners receive from being involved in their artistic pursuits.
