Innovation Showcase - The People's Memorial Project

Jay talks with Vanessa Till Hooper and Cedric “Vise 1” Douglas. Vanessa is the founder and she now serves as the creative director of Studio HHH- a multidisciplinary design studio, specializing in large-scale art installations, interior architecture and immersive environments. Cedric is a designer, street artist, and social interventionist. They’re here today to inform us about a fascinating project they’ve collaborated on called The People’s Memorial Project-- a pop-up public video projection installation in Boston’s North End, that addresses the current debate about public monuments and their controversial status. During the program, we’ll be finding out why and how The People’s Memorial Project came about, we’ll go on a behind-the-scenes tour and, in the process, come to better understand and appreciate the project’s overall mission and its promising potential both locally and beyond.

Jay talks with Adam and Marissa Goldstein, a husband and wife team who are the founders of Rafi Nova, which is based right here in Newton. Like many companies during the pandemic, Rafi Nova has had to pivot and reinvent themselves the past eight months. Initially created as a fair-trade fashion brand to provide families with sustainably made travel bags, the company has shifted its focus to face masks to support the needs of families and communities.During the program, we’ll be learning why and how Rafi Nova came about and how its grown, developed, and operates today. In the process, we’ll come to better understand and appreciate both Adam and Marissa's inspiring and admirable story and their thoughts, ideas, and advice about innovation and entrepreneurship.

Kate serves as the executive director and founder of Now + There-- a nonprofit dedicated to creating temporary, site-specific public art installations in Boston. Sari is a multi-disciplinary artist and environmental activist based in New York. Kate and Sari are here today to inform us about The Shape of Play, Sari’s new public art installation that’s located in Boston’s Waterfront Park in the North End. It was commissioned by the Jewish Arts Collaborative (JArts) and curated and produced by Now + There.

Innovation Showcase - The Scooter Crossing

Jay talks with Graham Pollard, Brandon Bedford, and Christian Boyle. Graham, Brandon, and Christian are here to inform us about a fascinating undertaking they just completed—riding an electric scooter more than 4,000 miles following the TransAmerica Bike Trail that runs from Yorktown, Virginia to Florence, Oregon. Graham did the riding with Brandon and Christian providing support and documenting this first ever accomplishment using an electric scooter. During the program, we’ll be learning why and how the scooter crossing came about and what transpired during this groundbreaking two-month quest.
