Museum Open House - Pandemic Oral History Project

Jay talks with Ben Gillespie, PhD. Ben serves as the ‎Arlene and Robert Kogod Secretarial Scholar for Oral History at the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art-- the world's preeminent resource dedicated to collecting and preserving the papers and primary records of the visual arts in America. During the program, we’ll be learning why and how the Archives of American Art came about and how it’s grown, developed, and operates today. Most notably, we’ll be finding out the fascinating recent initiative entitled the Pandemic Oral History Project—an oral history series that recorded responses to the global pandemic across the American art world. We’ll go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the project, and, in the process, come to better understand and appreciate the Archives of America Art’s overall mission and its extensive collection of resources related to the visual arts in America.
