Museum Open House - Women of Color Quilters Network

Jay talks with Carolyn Mazloomi, PhD.Trained as an aerospace engineer, Dr. Mazloomi is also a highly accomplished fiber artist, master quilter, historian, writer, and mentor. In addition, she is the founder of the Women of Color Quilters Network—a vibrant and dynamic non-profit organization begun in 1985. During the program, we’ll learning why and how the Women of Color Quilters Network came about and how it’s grown, developed, and operates today. To better understand and appreciate its overall mission, we’ll go on a behind-the-scenes tour of its current multi-site initiative of quilt exhibitions entitled We Are the Story—curated by Dr. Mazloomi and presented by the Textile Center & Women of Color Quilters Network.

Museum Open House - New England Watercolor Society

Jay talks with Wendy Hale and Tony Visco. Wendy and Tony are from the New England Watercolor Society--one of the oldest and most prestigious watercolor societies in the country. Wendy serves as the President of the Society and Tony is the Vice President.During the program, we’ll be learning about the society’s history and mission and find out about their wide range of programs, workshops, exhibitions, and other events that are available to members and the general public. That said, we’ll be spending most of our time viewing and discussing the New England Watercolor Society’s 2021 Annual Signature Member Show, which is hosted by The Guild of Boston Artists located at 162 Newbury Street in Boston. This will be on display until February 28.

Ben serves as the ‎Arlene and Robert Kogod Secretarial Scholar for Oral History at the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art-- the world's preeminent resource dedicated to collecting and preserving the papers and primary records of the visual arts in America. During the program, we’ll be learning why and how the Archives of American Art came about and how it’s grown, developed, and operates today. Most notably, we’ll be finding out the fascinating recent initiative entitled the Pandemic Oral History Project—an oral history series that recorded responses to the global pandemic across the American art world. We’ll go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the project, and, in the process, come to better understand and appreciate the Archives of America Art’s overall mission and its extensive collection of resources related to the visual arts in America.

Jay talks with photographers and activists Marky Kauffmann and Ellen Feldman, PhD.They’re here today to inform us about their very engaging and thought-provoking exhibition entitled Moved To Act! Demonstrations, Marches, Political Actions. This display documents and showcases a wide range of signs related to a number of recent protests and rallies promoting and championing social justice. From January 11 – February 12, it will be at the Cambridge Multicultural Center. During the program, we’ll be learning why and how Moved To Act! came about, we’ll go on a behind-the-scenes tour, and, in the process, come to better understand and appreciate some of the demonstrations and movements that have taken place throughout the United States in recent years and the importance and role of activism in our country as a means of achieving social justice.

Beth serves as the Artistic Director and Chief Curator at the Fuller Craft Museum, Lisa is the Director of Marketing and Communications at Snow Farm, and Lois is a highly accomplished fiber artist and one of the participants in the exhibition.During the program, we’ll be finding out why and how the exhibition came about, we’ll go on a behind-the-scenes tour and, the process, come to better understand and appreciate the history, mission, and ongoing importance of Snow Farm as a craft school and the wide-range of outstanding artists and instructors whose captivating work is being featured at the Fuller Craft Museum.
